Hamby Onaona Kahawaii-Lang

March 31, 1961-June 10, 2023

Hamby Onaona Kahawaii-Lang passed away on Saturday, June 10, 2023. She was born on March 31, 1961, in Honolulu, Hawaii, to Shem and Hamby (Akina) Kahawaii. She was married to Smith Lang on Sept. 5, 2015, in St. George, Utah.

Hamby was raised on the Big Island of Hawaii in the beautiful town of Waimea. She went to Honoka’a High School and later got her high school diploma at Kona Community School for Adults. Later in life, while living on Maui, she met the love of her life Smith and then moved to St. George, Utah, to be united in marriage and where her dreams of owning a home became a reality.

Hamby then pursued a career in healthcare and became a CNA where she touched so many lives. She loved being a CNA. She loved spending time with her ohana (family). She loved going to the Temple and loved being an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She enjoyed doing genealogy. She loved her community.

She taught ukulele lessons to the children in her neighborhood and did little fundraisers for them as well. Hamby was very musically inclined. She had the voice of an angel, and she played the guitar and ukulele beautifully. She loved crafting. Everything she touched would turn into magic. She had the most beautiful smile and was a beam of sunshine to all those who knew her. She will be deeply missed.

Hamby is reunited in Heaven with her father Shem Kahawaii Sr., her sister Bonny Herbert and sister-in-law Mary Kahawaii.

She is survived by her husband Smith Lang; her children Anthony Kahawaii, Pikake Quebatay, Kalani (Jeannie) Quebatay, Makana (Dane) Carvalho, and William Ochmann Jr.; her grandchildren Lyric “Makena” Castro, Cyan Castro, Ecya Madison, Tamanu Kahawaii, Kyriss Quebatay and Kacen Kahawaii; her mother Hamby Kahawaii Sr.; her brothers Shem Kahawaii, John (Barbara) Kahawaii and Danny Kahawaii; her sisters Trish (John) Fisher, Lorri Cardoza and Cathy (Gerald) Hicks; and her brother-in-law Mike Herbert.

We will be having a celebration of life on Sunday, July 23, at 4:30 pm, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 550 E. 700 S., St. George, Utah.

We will also be having a celebration of life for Hamby on the Big Island of Hawaii in Her Hometown of Waimea, Hawaii. Details to follow.
