UPDATED: Authorities release name of missing Colorado City man whose body was found by hiker

COLORADO CITY, Ariz.Colorado City authorities have identified Heber Clancy Johnson, 22, as the man who originally went missing July 24 and whose body was discovered Tuesday by a hiker.

Colorado City Chief Marshal Robbin Radley provided a media release Wednesday confirming it was Johnson who was located after authorities had called off a search party scheduled for Wednesday morning involving Colorado City and Hildale law enforcement as well as several volunteers. A hiker in a small slot canyon east of the city limits found the body of Johnson earlier in the day, about a mile from Johnson’s residence.

According to the news release, the Colorado City Marshal’s Office and Hildale City Police had sent out a request for community assistance after he had been reported missing on July 24. There had been daily searches conducted by Deputies from the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office/Search and Rescue, BLM Rangers, deputies from the Colorado City Marshal’s Office and tracking K9.

A family member on social media posted updates and notices of Johnson missing since July 24. The family member wrote that Johnson had “not been seen since Thursday morning. He left the house he was staying at on foot around 6 a.m. that morning. He left with basically no belongings, and we think he may have headed towards Centennial Park, but he could be anywhere.”

Johnson had a pet dog with him, which was found alive and well. The dog was rescued and is currently under care.

There are no suspicious circumstances regarding Johnson’s.

A news release from the Colorado City Marshal’s Office also reminded the public of the following:
