“A motor or a wire burned out,” Hildale Mayor Donia Jessop told St. George News via a cellphone call at 8 p.m. “They are pulling that right now. It will be fixed within 3-5 days. We’re asking to stop all outdoor watering until that is repaired.”

Jessop said that no outdoor watering is the only restriction in place at this time.

“But do conserve whenever possible,” she added. “We’re praying for rain, just like everyone else.”

A Hildale City Facebook notice posted just before 6 p.m. Thursday included the  public health and safety notice urging citizens to stop outdoor watering “effective immediately.”

The post also included the following:

The largest culinary/drinking water well in the Hildale/Colorado City Water System has been damaged and is not working. With the intense record-setting heat wave, we need to maintain drinking water for people’s health and safety in our community. We also need to make sure we have adequate water for fighting any potential fires.  Crews are working on getting the problem fixed as soon as possible and we will let the community know once everything is fixed. Please be considerate of your family, friends and neighbors during this time and within a few days water use will return to normal.

David Louis reported in St. George News on June 4 that Hildale officials have been taking several preemptive measures concerning their water system.

This is a developing story.
