ST. GEORGE — Braonain McGinnis, 24, was last seen more than five months ago, on Dec. 21, 2023, in the Glen Burnie area of Anne Arundel County, Maryland.
Family friend Lucas Frasier is asking Southern Utah residents to be on the lookout as the missing man’s car was later found more than 2,000 miles away in northern Arizona.
According to a press release issued Jan. 23 by the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office, the vehicle McGinnis was driving was found Jan. 3 near state Route 89A in Page, Arizona. Detectives said they currently have no known destination for McGinnis.
According to the Maryland Center for Missing and Unidentified Persons, McGinnis stands 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighs 185 pounds, has long hair and a full beard and was last seen wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and Vans sneakers. Frasier said McGinnis’ phone stopped pinging the night he went missing, and a withdrawal was made from his bank account.
“Either the phone has been turned off or is dead, and it has not been used,” Frasier said. “Hours before he left, he drew $200 from his bank account at the ATM. Since then, there has been no activity on any bank cards or credit cards.”
Arizona Department of Public Safety troopers found the Hyundai Accent sedan driven by McGinnis between House Rock Road and Jacob Lake Inn near milepost 570 on SR-89A.
“There were no license plates on his vehicle when it was discovered, and there was approximately 15 miles of gas remaining in the vehicle,” he said. “He may have his phone — a red galaxy with a black otter box, his license plate, Maryland tag 9CY0074, or a black and yellow jacket.”
Frasier said the family hopes those recreating near the area will be on the lookout for items that would not normally be out in the wilderness. Should anyone spot McGinnis in person, Frasier said his name is pronounced “Brennan.”
“He may have dropped or discarded any of these items,” he said. “We would appreciate it if everyone could keep an eye out for them, as they may provide us with valuable information regarding his current or his past locations.”
Frasier said that the Sheriff’s Office search and rescue has performed searches in surrounding areas, but no clues were found as of June 7, when he last spoke to detectives.
