Interim Fire Chief and Government Affairs Director Lance Haynie of Santa Clara-Ivins Fire & Rescue confirmed that the department responded to reports of a “vehicle hitting a boat,” which is precisely what they found upon arrival.

The driver of the Dodge Dakota SLT, a Spanish-speaking man, encountered difficulties in communicating due to his limited English proficiency, police said. Despite this language barrier, emergency responders managed to assess his condition.

He was examined at the scene for any potential injuries and, finding none serious, was subsequently questioned further by both Santa Clara-Ivins Fire & Rescue and the Santa Clara-Ivins Police Department.

Stg. Nick Tobler of the Santa Clara-Ivins Police Department told St. George News the truck was traveling southbound. The driver may have been distracted, possibly involving the use of a cell phone.

The driver failed to notice a turn in the road, resulting in the truck veering into the driveway of a residential home. Based on the tire skid marks at the scene, Sgt. Tobler noted that the driver did not apply the brakes until after colliding with a vehicle parked in the driveway, which created a chain reaction.

“He hit the car, hit the boat, the boat hit the house, causing damage to the house,” Tobler said.

Tobler said the driver would face multiple citations as a result of the incident. Among these citations is one for failure to maintain lane, along with other violations related to the circumstances of the crash. The exact details of the additional citations were not specified.

The Santa Clara-Ivins Police Department and Santa ClaraIvins Fire & Rescue responded to the scene.

This report is based on statements from court records, police or other responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
