ST. GEORGE Glen Canyon National Recreation Area staff are seeking information regarding large debris currently existing on Lake Powell to be better informed for future salvage and cleanup efforts.

According to a recent media release, park officials are seeking specific locations on the lake where vessels have sunk or become exposed during low water. Crews are also looking for any locations where large deposits of debris may be located.

“An email inbox has been created for the public to send information,” the release said. “Park staff will monitor this email inbox and compile public input. Information needed includes descriptions — what is the debris, locations, physical description with GPS points and photos if possible.”

Information received will be combined with park records to define the level of effort and funding requirements. Officials said the next steps include defining the means and methods and timing of implementation.

Staff at the recreational area will begin data analysis on this initial round of public input in April.

“There is no planned end date for this data collection effort as the park needs to collect and store this data in perpetuity,” officials added. “The park staff appreciates the public’s help in providing information requested for this effort.”

Those with information can email: [email protected].

More information about the recreation in the area is available on each park’s website: Glen Canyon National Recreation Area or Rainbow Bridge National Monument.
