Soup N’ Bowl art fundraiser is delicious to your eyes, tastebuds, pocketbook

ST. GEORGE  – Tickets are now on sale for the 13th annual Soup N’ Bowl fundraising luncheon and auction for the St. George Art Museum. This treat for your taste buds and your eyes is one of two fundraisers in support of the programs and collections of the St. George Art Museum and is scheduled on Friday, March 6 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Social Hall located in the Pioneer Center for the Arts, 200 North Main Street, St. George.

The event’s $20 ticket price will provide art lovers a delicious lunch and their choice of a hand-made ceramic bowl created by professional artists, pottery students from several Washington County high schools and Dixie State University, or ceramic hobbyists.

A silent auction will give attendees a chance to bid on pottery made by local professionals and several ceramic artists from the St. George Art Festival. Funds raised will be used to purchase additional paintings and other art works for the St. George Art Museum’s permanent collection.

The ticket price will also include admission to the St. George Art Museum where two shows are currently on display through May 9, 2015. Installation Artist Sara Rockinger’s work “Weddings and Immigration” is on display in the upper gallery. “Here Comes the Gown: 150 Years of Wedding Dresses” continues in the main gallery where over fifty dresses, veils, shoes and other accessories, along with photographs and oral conversations, tell the story of “happily ever after” for brides and grooms from the earliest days of the Utah Territory and begging the question: are wedding dresses art? You decide!

The St. George Art Museum is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 47 East 200 North. According to the museum’s mission statement, the city-owned and operated facility exists “to educate … through quality exhibitions from all periods, cultures and media … and to collect, conserve, inventory, exhibit and interpret art and artifacts from Utah and the West.”
