SOUTHERN UTAH — Nine Mile Canyon near Price is known for its world-renowned Fremont rock art, created by contemporaries of the pre-Puebloan “Anasazis.” Its famous “Hunter Panel” is reproduced in photographs, textbooks and even tourist souvenirs.
Few enthusiasts know that the canyon also displays rock art with direct links to current Native American tribes. In his presentation to the Dixie Archaeology Society, Layne Miller former president of the Utah Rock Art Research Association will discuss the living history of Ute rock art images in Nine Mile Canyon and east-central Utah.
The Dixie Archaeology Society will meet Wednesday, May 11 from 7-8:30 p.m. in room 121 (Boeing Auditorium), Udvar-Hazy Building, 225 S. 700 E. St. George on the Dixie State University Campus.
