The crash, which happened at approximately 1 p.m., involved a blue Ford Escape and a silver Ford Expedition.

Cedar City Police Sgt. Tim Bonzo said the driver of the blue SUV was facing west and waiting to turn south onto Interstate 15’s on-ramp at Exit 59.

“There was a yellow light and the blue SUV turned in front of the silver (Expedition),” Bonzo said, adding that an on-duty Cedar City Police officer was in his patrol vehicle nearby and witnessed the crash.

No serious injuries were reported.

“Just some minor injuries, seat belt burns, mostly,” Bonzo said at the scene, adding that a Gold Cross Ambulance crew was on its way to evaluate the occupants of both vehicles as a precaution.

Bonzo said the driver of the blue SUV would likely be issued a citation for failure to yield.

Both vehicles sustained substantial front-end damage and needed to be towed from the scene.

The incident impacted traffic along 200 North for about 30 minutes while responders worked to clear the wrecked vehicles and debris from the roadway.

This report is based on preliminary statements from law enforcement officials and may not contain the full scope of findings.
