CEDAR CITY — At last week’s Iron County Republican Party convention, delegates selected Kenneth Robinson over Maile Wilson Edwards as the preferred candidate for Iron County Commission Seat “C”. However, both candidates will still face each other in the upcoming primary election.

According to Iron County GOP chair Mari Eddy, Robinson received 199 of 275 delegate votes, or 72%, while Wilson Edwards received 76 votes (28%).

However, since both Robinson and Wilson Edwards had already gathered at least the minimum number of 576 signatures needed to advance to the primary ballot, the county’s registered Republican voters will decide in June who the next county commissioner will be.

The primary election date is June 25, with ballots scheduled to go out in the mail approximately three weeks prior.

The Iron County Commission’s “C” seat is currently held by Marilyn Wood, who was elected in 2020 but opted not to run for reelection. The other two seats on the commission, which are held by Mike Bleak and Paul Cozzens, aren’t up for election again until 2026.

Initially, five candidates filed for the open “C” seat; however, three of them have since withdrawn their names from consideration, namely Dallas Guymon, Patrick Larson and Steven Dodds.

The remaining two contenders, Robinson and Wilson Edwards, are both longtime Iron County residents. To see their respective campaign websites, click here for Robinson’s and here for Wilson Edwards’s.

The county convention was held the evening of April 11 at Canyon View High School. Eddy said the 275 credentialed delegates who attended represented a participation rate of 90%.

“We extend our thanks to all the candidates and delegates who contributed to a highly successful convention,” Eddy told Cedar City News.

Attendees also had the opportunity to hear from state and federal candidates vying for positions such as governor, auditor, attorney general and U.S. Congressional seats.

Next up for the various Republican candidates and delegates will be the statewide GOP convention, scheduled for Saturday, April 27 at the Salt Palace in Salt Lake City.
