CEDAR CITY — An overnight storm blanketed the Cedar City area with a few inches of snow starting on Wednesday evening, resulting in multiple traffic incidents.
Shortly before 10 a.m. Thursday, Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Clay Allred told Cedar City News that troopers in the Iron County area had responded to three two-vehicle crashes, one three-car collision and a few slide-offs.
Additionally, Allred said there was also a report of a jackknifed semi truck on SR-143, but added that the truck’s driver was able to self-correct before troopers arrived.
No injuries were reported in any of those incidents, he said.
“We would ask the public to increase following distance and slow down speeds as they navigate winter weather,” Allred said.
Cedar City Police Sgt. Justin Ludlow said a few minor crashes were reported on the city’s streets in the wake of Wednesday evening’s storm, but nobody was seriously hurt.
The storm dropped approximately 3-5 inches of snow throughout most of downtown Cedar City, with similar accumulations being reported in surrounding areas, including Enoch. Brian Head Resort reported 7 inches of new snow, bringing its base total up to 26 inches.
The Cedar City area has a 40% chance of additional snow on Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.
