Included in the advisory is Mohave County, Arizona, where the alert runs from 1 p.m. Wednesday through 5 a.m. Thursday MST.

The National Weather Service said in a news release that snow accumulations of 5-10 inches are expected. Motorists should plan for slippery road conditions and are reminded to slow down and use caution while traveling.

The Utah Highway Patrol also reminds drivers to be mindful of some useful practices while you’re behind the wheel negotiating winter road conditions:

  • The posted speed limit is for dry, ideal conditions. If it’s wet, snowy or icy, you should be going under the speed limit.
  • Accelerate slowly, brake gently and don’t turn quickly.
  • Snow and slush can form ridges between lanes that can be really slippery and can cause you to lose control. Avoid them if possible.
  • Crash risk increases in bad weather. Seat belts save lives.
  • Place coats or blankets around children once the harness is snug and secure.
  • Four-wheel drive helps with traction but doesn’t help with stopping and turning. And it can create a false sense of security – you still need to slow down.
  • Use extra caution on bridges – the road on either side may just be wet, but the bridge may be icy.
  • If you find yourself behind a snowplow, stay behind it and use extreme caution if you pass. Never pass on the right.
  • If you start to skid, ease off the gas and turn in the direction the back of your car is going.
  • Snow left on your vehicle can be hazardous. If it hardens, it can fly off and cause damage.
  • If a trip isn’t essential, stay home and enjoy the snow with a warm fire and a good book. Or binge-watch your favorite show.
