School district superintendent Larry Bergeson to speak at ‘Chamber Connect’ luncheon

ST. GEORGE — The St. George Chamber of Commerce is pleased to welcome Washington County School District Superintendent Larry Bergeson as the featured speaker of its next “Chamber Connect” luncheon, scheduled for Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at the Best Western Abbey Inn.

Bergeson was born in Blackfoot, Idaho. Shortly after, his family moved to St. George where he attended East Elementary. He later returned to Idaho graduating from Teton High School in Driggs. He attended his freshman year of college at the College of Southern Idaho, where he played basketball. During the following two years, he completed an mission in Australia for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Bergeson then spent the next three years playing basketball for and attending Utah State University where he received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in special education. In 1982, Bergeson began his education career at Preston High School in Preston, Idaho.  He also served from 1998-2001 as a member of the board of directors for the Wyoming High School Activities Association.

According to a news release issued by the chamber, Bergeson was lured by warmer temperatures to Washington County, where he served as principal at Hurricane Middle School for six years and as principal of Dixie High School for six years. He also served from 2010-2013 on the executive committee of the Utah High School Activities Association.

In 2013, he was selected by Washington County School District Board of Education as the superintendent of schools, where he currently serves. He is now in his 36th year as an educator.

Washington County School District, headquartered in St. George, has a total enrollment of more than 30,000 students. The district provides public education for students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade in Washington County cities, towns and communities, including St. George, Bloomington, Bloomington Hills, Winchester Hills, Dammeron Valley, Washington, Santa Clara, Ivins, Hurricane, LaVerkin, Central, Veyo, Enterprise, Gunlock, Pine Valley, Leeds, Hildale, Apple Valley, Springdale, Rockville, Virgin and Toquerville.  The district covers an area of more than 2,400 square miles.

  • Where: Best Western Abbey Inn, 1129 S. Bluff St., St. George.
  • Admission: Cost is $15 for chamber members, $20 for nonmembers. Advance registration is recommended and may be done online at the St. George Chamber of Commerce event registration website.

    Lured by warmer temps huh Larry?…..well it’s goning to get Damn Cold here when you try to screw us Washington Country Taxpayers for another $138 Million on this upcoming Ballot…make the new residents coming to southern Utah pay for this school bond with much higher impact fees…and SITLA, start charging a heck of a lot more for “OUR LAND”…after all, “WE the People of the great State of Utah” own it, not you..
