ST. GEORGE — A Salt Lake Express bus was traveling near Nephi when it rear-ended a semi double tanker carrying gravel Thursday morning.
The bus, which comes from a shuttle company also located in St. George, was southbound on I-15 around 8:44 a.m. Thursday, according to the Utah Highway Patrol, when it rear-ended the semi.
Five of the 18 passengers on the bus were transported by ambulance to Central Valley Hospital in Nephi and Mountain View Hospital in Payson. Several other passengers sustained injuries which were reportedly not life threatening.
A school bus from Juab school district was near the accident and transported the remaining occupants to the Central Valley Hospital.
The gravel the semi was carrying had to be loaded off due to the rear axles on the semi pup breaking off in the accident. The No. 2 lane was closed while officials cleaned up the accident.
Distracted driving is being investigated as the cause of the crash, according to UHP.
This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.

oops
8:45 AM SB I-15 – Plenty of light, no sun in his eyes, a trailer like that is plenty visible in front of you. If it wasn’t distracted driving, it was driving while asleep.
Good thing gravel doesnt blow up like that propane in Italy. Whoooooeeeee Look out! #DontTextandDrive
Dot investigations are hard to beat in court if you’re texting and driving you should lose your cdl for life
Hey, that’s me.
I recently used the St. George Express to travel from St. George to Logan. The first driver who took me from St. George was really nice and seemed to obey the speed limit and drove like a normal human being. I was dropped off at the Salt Lake International airport to switch shuttles to continue to Logan. Now here is where the fun begins. The driver from Salt Lake to Logan scared the sh!t out of me. All the way up I-15 he was tailgating and slamming on his brakes. I had a bag with my laptop next to me, at one point in Ogden he locked his brakes up and my bag with the laptop flew off the seat and I also hit my head on the seat in front of me. I was wearing the seat belt, If you have ever been on one of these shuttles if you sit in the back row they are lap and shoulder belts. Going up the canyon from Brigham City to Logan the shuttle blew past a sign showing the speed limit at 60 and then shows we were doing 80. It’s a nice service, but maybe some of the drivers have issues!
You mean to tell me that a Utah driver was on his cell phone while driving? THAT’S ABSOLUTELY UNHEARD OF!
