ST. GEORGE — A head-on collision on Red Hills Parkway Tuesday afternoon killed one person and injured two others, according to police.
The crash occurred when the driver of a pickup truck that was westbound in the area of 400 West Red Hills Parkway and traveling at a high rate of speed lost control of the vehicle and over-corrected, causing it to cross into oncoming traffic where it hit an eastbound vehicle head on, St. George Police officer Tiffany Atkin said.
Atkin and other police officers were at the intersection of 200 East on Red Hills Parkway and directing diverting traffic when she spoke to St. George News.
Lacey Brunyer said she was on driving on Red Hills Parkway when the crash occurred and was one of the first people at the scene who tried to help the pickup driver prior to the arrival of the emergency responders.
“Unfortunately all I saw was the gold truck flip after a collision and I ran to assist,” Brunyer wrote to St. George News over Facebook.
“When I got to the gold truck I crawled in through the passenger side and tried to find a pulse on the man. We tried to get an airway because he had a pulse but it was very weak and he was unresponsive but he was upside down and we couldn’t get him free. That’s when EMS arrived on scene.”

The driver of the pickup died. Two people in the other vehicle were treated at the scene but not taken to the hospital.
The crash closed the parkway between Skyline Drive and Bluff Street at about 4 p.m. as police tended to the scene and investigators reconstructed the crash. It was reopened about three hours later, although St. George Police are advising drivers to use caution because fluid from the accident may still be on the roadway.
The closure also resulted in traffic congestion on Bluff Street as drivers sought alternate routes.

I drive that route at least a couple times every day @ the posted 50 mph. The norm is that I’m passed by EVERY car!!!!! 60, 70 mph is common. I still don’t understand why STD drivers totally ignore speed limits!!
Simple fix 6 mph over speed limit is an automatic $1000.00 fine or 60 days in jail. Case closed.
I think it’s coming to that. I watch the “Alaskan Troopers” quite often and their fines are tremendous compared to ours. They don’t have near the traffic we have here in River City and I dare say their drivers (except for DUI) are more cautious than ours.
case closed? Hardly. Every card carrying LDS gets a free pass. Problem is not solved.
If they started to put speed radars, people wouldn’t speed as much. They take a picture of your car + license and you get the ticket on the mail. There is no way of contesting that evidence. And on top of that, heavy fines for tampering or vandalizing the radars. They have that system in Europe and it works!
People only slow down if they see a cop car, it’s a fact. People will only obey the law if the punishment is severe enough. Most part anyway…
After so many speed tickets, you loose your license. Case solved.
More patrol officers are needed. Perhaps the city leaders will make this happen before another feel good project is done.

This is clearly not the place where you find people trying to solve a problem. Once you recognize that they aren’t people, they are just anonymous cowards then it makes sense and you stop being so affected.
