ST. GEORGE — A flash flood warning is in currently effect for a rural area of central Kane County until late Saturday night.
Update 8:40 p.m. Flash flooding is also affecting south-central Kane County along Kitchen Corral Wash and Buckskin Gulch, with a flash flood warning in effect until 11 p.m. Saturday.
The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City issued the flood warning, which is in effect until 11:45 p.m.
Just before 6 p.m. Saturday, Doppler radar indicated a thunderstorm producing heavy rain over north-central Kane County. Over 1.5 inches of rain has already fallen.
Flash flooding is expected along Last Chance Creek and Croton Canyon from their headwaters in north-central Kane County down to their terminus at Lake Powell.
Any flooding will remain over mainly rural areas of central Kane County.
Precautions
Remain alert for flooding even in locations not receiving rain. Dry washes, streams and rivers can become raging killer currents in a matter of minutes, even from distant rainfall.
If you are in the warning area, move to higher ground immediately. Residents living along streams and creeks in the advisory area should take immediate precautions to protect life and property.
