Marine Corps League Dixie Detachment honored at annual convention

ST. GEORGE — The Rocky Mountain Division and Utah Department of the Marine Corps League combined their annual conventions last weekend at the Desert Garden Inn in St. George, Utah.

Utah Dixie Detachment 1270 Marine Corps League was the host unit and provided personnel and arrangements for the convention.

Most Marines and their guests arrived at the conference Friday for registration and a full day of meetings on Saturday.

Saturday night was topped off with an awards banquet.

Utah Dixie Detachment 1270 Marine Corps League was selected as the Utah Department Detachment of the Year and Col. Dave Waters, commandant of Detachment 1270, was selected as the Department of Utah Commandant of the Year.

The Department of Utah Marine of the Year was Les Covey of Detachment 1270. Covey is a former sr. vice-commandant of the detachment and works closely with the Devil Pups program as an assistant liaison representative.

Donna Toole, Southern Utah Devil Pups coordinator and web sergeant for Detachment 1270, was also recognized for her work as web sergeant with the 2018 Department of Utah Website of the Year award.

Bill Fortune, public relations officer for Utah Dixie Detachment 1270 Marine Corps League, was recognized for his work for the detachment with a 2018 Department of Utah Public Relations Distinguished Service award.
