ST. GEORGE — A man was killed in a crash on state Route 56 in Cedar City Thursday night after his motorcycle collided with an SUV.

Shortly before 10 p.m. officers and emergency personnel were dispatched to a crash on state Route 56 involving a blue Honda SUV and a motorcycle, Cedar City Police Sgt. Jerry Womack said.

Officers arrived and found several bystanders attempting to help the 40-year-old rider, but he was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene.

“People were on scene right away trying to administer life-saving measures on him, but it just wasn’t successful,” Womack said.

According to statements made at the scene, officers determined that the motorcycle was heading west on SR-56 as the Honda was leaving a retail parking lot.

The Honda pulled out into traffic and was struck on the driver’s side by the approaching motorcycle.

The impact separated the rider from the bike and launched him into the air before landing on the roadway, where officers found him minutes later.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing, and no further information was available at the writing of this report.

This report is based on statements from police or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
