Memorial Day weekend events guide for Southern Utah, Nevada

SOUTHERN UTAH — In honor of the brave servicemen and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice – that of their lives – to the people of the United States, services and remembrances across Southern Utah and Nevada will be held throughout the Memorial Day weekend.

The public is invited to attend one or several of the many observances to pay tribute to those who were lost but should never be forgotten.

A schedule of observances is as follows:

Friday, 2-4 p.m. | Memorial Day Program | Admission: Free | Location: Southern Utah Veterans Home, 160 N. 200 East, Ivins.

  • The Southern Utah Veterans Home invites the community to join them as they pay tribute to the nation’s fallen servicemen and women. The featured speaker will be Maj. Gen. Jefferson S. Burton.

Monday, 7:45 a.m. PDT | Memorial Day Service | Admission: Free | Location: Veterans Memorial Park, 501 Hillside Drive, Mesquite, Nevada.

  • Join veterans from Mesquite, Nevada, at the Veterans Memorial Park in paying tribute to the fallen servicemen and women.

Monday, 8 a.m. | Memorial Day Ceremony | Admission: Free | Location: SunRiver Veterans Honor Park, intersection of Wide River Drive and Diamond River Drive, St. George.

  • American Legion Post 142 will host a Memorial Day Service at the SunRiver Veterans Honor Park. The featured speaker will be retired Lt. Col. Jerome Gourley of Toquerville. Gourley is a Gold Star father and will pay tribute to his son who died while serving in the military in Iraq.

Monday, 8 a.m. | Sunrise Service | Admission: Free | Location: Hurricane Cemetery, 600 North 225 W., Hurricane.

  • American Legion Post 100 will host a sunrise Memorial Day service and pancake breakfast.

Monday, 9 a.m. | Memorial Day Service | Admission: Free | Location: St. George Cemetery, 650 E. Tabernacle, St. George.

  • American Legion Post 90 will host a Memorial Day observance at the St. George Cemetery. Featured speaker will be Dennis Berg, United States Air Force, retired.

Monday, 9 a.m. | Memorial Day Observance | Admission: Free | Location: Ivins Cemetery, 200 W. 400 North, Ivins.

  • A public Memorial Day Observance will be held at the Ivins Cemetery.

Monday, 10 a.m. | Memorial Day Service | Admission: Free | Location: Veterans Park, 75 E. Telegraph St., Washington City.

  • American Legion Post 912 will host a Memorial Day observance at the Veterans Park in Washington City.

Monday, 10 a.m. | Memorial Day Recognition | Admission: Free | Location: Cedar City Cemetery, 685 N. Main St., Cedar City.

  • The public is invited to attend a Memorial Day ceremony at the Cedar City Cemetery.

Monday, 10 a.m. | Memorial Day Program | Admission: Free | Location: Parowan Cemetery, 834 Canyon Road, Parowan.

  • Parowan will host its annual Memorial Day observance at the Parowan Cemetery.
