am i the only one who thinks these familial “abductions” are a misuse of the amber alert system?

Yes comments I do believe you’re the only idiot that thinks it’s a misuse!!! An Amber Alert is for ANY child!!! A parent can do harm to their own child too!!! I think maybe you should look up the meaning of Amber Alert before you actually comment!!!

How is it a misuse when someone who has had their parental rights revoked decides to take a child? Usually there is a good reason that the child is not in their custody. Maybe the non custodial parent is dangerous. We don’t know all the facts here so all we can do is speculate. All I know is I would rather have the system “misused” then have harm come to an innocent child.

      Yes.

i see replies from what amounts to a mini clown circus. Read the story of the girl who the system is named after and compare it to these… what amounts to simply a custodial violation by a caring parent who happens to not have LEGAL custody probly as the result of a messy contentious divorce. Compare it to a child abduction/rape/murder scenario… and you whiners keep whining, bc thats what amber alert was designed for. NOT FOR CUSTODIAL DISPUTES BY VINDICTIVE PARENTS.

Why? Do you think beyond your nose? Obviously not. Abduction is abduction; doesn’t matter who takes a kid if they aren’t suppose to have that kid. Many family member can be and are dangerous and need to be apprehended before they do harm. Get it? Many kids and adults are murdered by angry, out of control family, usually a parent.

YES CLOWN, LEGALLY IT IS KIDNAPPING, BUT THEY’RE USING THE AMBER ALERT WHETHER THERE IS POTENTIAL ABUSE OR NOT. A PARENT IS A PARENT, NOT SOME RANDOM CHILD KIDNAPPER/MOLESTER/KILLER. IF THERE’S NO THREAT OF DANGER THEN…PFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF. YOU ARE DUMB!

    from wikipedia:

“However, the U.S. Department of Justice issues the following “guidance”, which most states are said to “adhere closely to” (in the U.S.):[14]

Law enforcement must confirm that an abduction has taken place.
The child must be at risk of serious injury or death.
There must be sufficient descriptive information of child, captor, or captor’s vehicle to issue an alert.
The child must be under 18 years of age.[15]

Many law enforcement agencies have not used #2 as a criterion, resulting in many parental abductions triggering an Amber Alert, where the child is not known or assumed to be at risk of serious injury or death. In 2013, West Virginia passed Skylar’s Law to eliminate #1 as a criterion for triggering an Amber Alert.”

SO UTAH IF THE CHILD IS NOT AT RISK OF SERIOUS HARM STOP WASTING OUR FRICKIN’ TIME, GEEZE…. actual abductions are extremely rare!!

    • desertgirl January 21, 2018 at 12:50 pm

Duh, if someone is willing to break the law and a court order they are unstable and not thinking clearly. btw what is rare? How many children should die, be injured, or severely traumatized by a crazy family member? Never mind. Arguing with an idiot .

HOW OFTEN DO THE COURTS PLACE THE KID WITH THE BAD PARENT. MAYBE THE MOM IS A DRUNK OR A USER AND NEGLECTFUL, AND THE DAD IS SAVING THE KID. HOW OFTEN DO THE COURTS FAIL THE KIDS. PRETTY FRICKIN OFTEN. U ARE AN IDIOT.
