Letter to the Editor: Who’s to blame?

OPINION — I know many Democrats are disappointed to see record numbers of Republicans elected to all levels of local, state and federal government.

We all heard the candidates for almost two years of hard campaigning. Election Day came and we voted. Power has transferred.

Much angst is directed at Trump but honestly, this election was a mandate on failed Democratic policy.  The system wasn’t working for half the country. The election results of 2014 were ignored by Democrats.

Then a very flawed candidate was offered by Democrats for president and the party was without leadership. Shurmer and Pelosi, really?

Blame a white backlash but most of the country is white and they pay most of the taxes. Shouldn’t they have some say?

Democratic identity politics combining LGBT, intellectuals, millennials, Blacks, feminists and immigrants just failed to recognize the average Joe who was paying the bills.

So here we are with  a chance for the common man to be fully represented. Can new leaders get America back to its glory years? I don’t know but let’s quit blaming Trump.

Whining, protesting and obstructing is not going to make Democrats feel any better about their failed policy and it is just poor sportsmanship filled with self-loathing.

Great article! It’s truly sad to see the division continue to escalate in this country as people place way too much stock in party lines. The system is broken and that’s what this election was all about. Hopefully it forces both parties to drastically reform and serve everyone in this country. A democracy works both ways folks. Or it should…

The problem is the vast majority of the author’s beloved republican congress people are every bit as or more corrupt and self-serving than any democrat. As if having an R dominated congress is going to solve anything? You forget most of them opposed Trump? As a long time democrat voter and seeing the D party’s failures time and time again I’ve pretty well given up on them, and they were always a few notches better than any R politician–for the most part. Trump might have some interesting surprises–as far as congress, it’ll be the usual filth, corruption, and greed that we’ve seen for what seems like forever–on both sides, R & D.

It’s sad, with the billionaires in power and have no experience to be in office, the middle class will suffer…the rich Don,t care about the working class. Trumo dud ,t oay taxes fir 20 yrs and son,t show his tax returns. His Don said trump was so successful, yet how many times as he filed bankruptcy. And lost Atlantic city.. He says he will go to New York on weekends. Did we vote fior a 5 day president??? And he appointed 20-30 people for his cabinet ( many of them he said were losers before he needed their help and what a outthe other 650 employees under Obama when will they lose their jobs in Washington.. we shall wait and see what happens starting monday

Check out Obama’s net worth when he took office 8 years ago and his net worth now. Look at Hillary’s net worth. Harry Truman said any politician who gets rich while in office is a crook. I think billionaires who made money before “serving” have much greater integrity and desire to do well gor the people than self-serving politicians who get rich while in office.

If Trump does nothing else other than secure the Border, build a real wall, and get rid of the thug criminal Illegal aliens, crush Gangs as well as cutting all welfare and putting Americans back to work? That’s more than enough for me and mine….Go Trump

I’m sorry but if you really think that this new administration has the slightest interest in the “common man” you are truly delusional. This is the most elitist cabinet our country has ever seen. Of the 30+ cabinet and adviser positions to be filled there is not one person who is not at least a multi-millionaire and most are billionaires. Only time will tell but I think those one the alt-right like the author of this editorial will ultimately rue the day they voted for Trump.

I suppose coming in as a millionaire is better than becoming a millionaire while holding a cabinet position. How do you think the clinton’s became millionaire’s? ..off your hard earned tax paying dollars and a pay to play “charity”

I’m not understanding your point, is it that millionaires only care about themselves? thats how I felt about the Clinton’s and our entire government officials.

I don’t know why everyone is scared. He will make a pathway for non criminal illegal immigrants that are already here to get citizenship. He will get rid of criminal illegal immigrants. He not once said, he would take LGBT or women rights away.
He will build a wall and we will bring businesses and manufactures back to America.

Of the 21 Democratic and Republican candidates that ran for president, Trump and Hillary were at the bottom of my list, Hillary being at the very bottom. When it came time to vote, I held my nose and voted for Trump. If Biden had been the democratic candidate, I would have probably have voted for him. Although Hillary was the most qualified candidate that ever ran for the office of the presidency, she was also the most corrupt and incompetent of any candidate…EVER!! So now that Trump is the president, let’s give him a chance, but let’s also keep his feet to the fire and make him keep his promises.

To all the people that think strong borders and a wall is bad:

rise up and leave your doors unlocked! Show us it’s ok for your border and boundaries to be open and that you will welcome anyone to come in your home at anytime. Show us it’s safe!

Think of America as your house. Would you unlock your doors?
