HURRICANE – The Hurricane Lady Tigers won their second in a row with a convincing win over Canyon View, 52-35, Tuesday night at the Tiger’s Den.

Hurricane jumped out early with impressive defense, holding the Lady Falcons to only three points in the first while scoring 11.

The defense played well, but the plan could have backfired when Stevens picked up two quick fouls and found herself next to Coach Homer on the bench.

“We put in Halli Gubler,” said Homer. “We stress to our bench that there should be no difference in the level of play when the starters come out. Tonight the bench played that way.”

The lead continued to climb in the second quarter as the Tigers outpaced CVHS 18-12. “Canyon View played a lot of zone,” said Homer. “We still got most of our points in the paint. Our guards penetrated and dished well to our posts.”

The third quarter went Canyon View’s way as it won it 9-7. However Hurricane still had a double-digit lead going into the fourth period, 36-24.

The fourth quarter was nearly all free throws for the Tigers. They attempted a total of 18, connecting on 10 of them.

“It was not really a situation where they were fouling to get back in the game,” said Homer. “They never really threatened in the fourth. We just drew a lot of fouls.”

Hurricane added three field goals to the 10 free throws to outscore the Falcons 16-11 in the final stanza.

Individually for Hurricane, Morgan Huntsman scored 14 points and pulled down seven rebounds. Carrie Marshall had eight points and nine rebounds. Taylor Anderson scored six points. Jayden Lankford and Lexy Lyons also pulled down seven rebounds each.

Canyon View drops to 1-4. The Tigers even their record to 2-2. Hurricane will host Juab Friday night at 7 p.m.
