ST. GEORGE – A driver running a stop sign led to a collision on 3050 East in St. George Saturday evening. The crash caused one vehicle to flip over and also resulted in a woman being sent to the hospital.
Around 7:30 p.m., the driver of a black SUV was traveling westbound on Deseret Drive toward 3050 East when she became distracted, St. George Police Sgt. Rich Triplett said.
“The driver reached back to deal with a child in the back seat and ran a stop sign,” he said.
After leaving Deseret Drive, the black SUV collided with a red SUV that was traveling north on 3050 East. The force of the impact caused the red SUV to flip over onto its roof.
The woman driving the red SUV was taken to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George by Gold Cross Ambulance.
The occupants of the black SUV were not transported to the hospital.
The crash blocked off the northbound lanes of 3050 East at the intersection of Deseret Drive, though a detour through a business parking lot was arranged to allow motorists to bypass the accident.
The scene was cleared shortly after 8 p.m.
Both vehicles had to be towed.
The driver of the black SUV was cited for running the stop sign, Triplett said.
In addition to St. George Police and Gold Cross Ambulance, St. George Fire and Washington City Police officers also provided assistance.
Ed. note: The gender of the driver of the red SUV has been corrected.

Dealing with a child while the vehicle is moving
should be the same as a cell phone – DON’T .
Slow down , move to the right and PARK .
Deal with child / cell phone / what ever while STOPPED .
Do Not drive while distracted
I hope the driver of the black SUV has really good insurance…
