ST. GEORGE – Race day has arrived. Nearly 3,000 athletes will compete in the Ironman 70.3 St. George North American Pro Championship, including 39 men and 29 women pro athletes. This is your news LIVE for quick photos and reports as the race progresses.
Facing these competitors is a 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike race and 13.1-mile run.
The oldest competitor Saturday is 76-year-old Gerry Forman from Palm Desert, California; and the youngest is 18-year-old Tristan Baird from Smithfield. Athletes come from 23 countries, with 40 of the United States represented – Utah, California, Arizona, Colorado and Nevada being the top five of those.
Water temperature at Sand Hollow Saturday morning, 6:55 a.m., is 60 degrees, according to watertemperature.net. Men and women pros are in the swim.
