Hazardous Weather Outlook: Storm bringing rain, snow, wind

SOUTHERN UTAH — The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City has issued a “Hazardous Weather Outlook” for the western two-thirds of Utah and southwest Wyoming in effect Friday and Saturday.

Affected areas

Southwest Utah, Utah’s Dixie and Zion National Park, Lake Powell, central and southern mountains, Cache Valley-Utah portion, northern Wasatch Front, Salt Lake and Tooele Valleys, southern Wasatch Front, Great Salt Lake desert and mountains, Wasatch mountain valleys, Interstate 80, western Uinta Mountains, Wasatch Plateau-Book Cliffs, western Uinta Basin-Castle Country, San Rafael Swell, Sanpete-Sevier Valleys, and west central Utah.

Timing

South winds will strengthen across western Utah Friday with gusts in excess of 45 miles per hour expected. A cold front will cross the outlook area from west to east late afternoon through Friday evening bringing valley rain and accumulating mountain snow. Snow levels are expected to fall to near 6,000 feet overnight. The heaviest snowfall is expected across the mountains of southern Utah above 8,000 feet.

Periods of accumulating mountain snow will continue through Saturday. By midday, the snow level will fall to near 4,000 feet bringing minimal, if any, snow accumulations in the valleys which do see snow.
