SCAM ALERT: Police warn of recent utility scam

ST. GEORGE– The St. George Police Department said Thursday it has received multiple reports of a recent utility scam.

Several reports have been received over the last 24 hours, St. George Police said in a statement, of local businesses getting calls stating their utilities are overdue and about to be turned off.

The caller then demands immediate payment to stop the utilities from being turned off.

Police warn: Do not make a payment to this person. This is a scam.

Instead, contact the St George Utilities office at 435-627-4000 and verify the status of your account.

SGPD posted on its Facebook page:

Never just take the person on the phone’s word for it – verify, verify, verify before you make a payment to anyone claiming they need “immediate payment now or there will be a severe consequence.”
