MESQUITE, Nevada – Multiple agencies joined forces to contain a vehicle fire on Interstate 15 between the areas of Bunkerville and Mesquite Thursday.
At around 1 p.m., Mesquite Fire and Emergency Services responded to a semitrailer, or tractor-trailer, on fire at Nevada mile marker 114 on southbound Interstate 1. The truck driver reported heavy smoke coming from the cab area of the tractor and pulled over onto the shoulder. The smoke turned into flame, and the driver and passenger tried to extinguish the fire by using a portable fire extinguisher.
Mesquite Engine-31, Engine-11 and Rescue-11 arrived to find the tractor/cab and part of the empty trailer fully engulfed in flames, according to a statement issued by Mesquite Fire Rescue. Chief Kash Christopher assumed incident command.
In what Christopher called a “total team effort from neighboring communities,” Station-71 from Bunkerville and a water tanker from the Nevada Department of Transportation assisted fire operations by supplying additional water to the crews. An aggressive attack was made on the fire, and the fire was suppressed and stopped at the trailer section, according to the statement.
A total of eight Mesquite Fire Rescue personnel responded to the fire, along with two Mesquite Police Department units, two from Nevada Highway Patrol, one Bunkerville Clark County Fire Department unit and one NDOT water tanker crew.
There were no injuries as a result of the accident, and traffic flow was briefly interrupted during fire suppression activities, the press release said.
After an investigation was conducted by Mesquite Fire investigators, Christopher concluded the fire was electrical in nature and the tractor-trailer was a complete loss.
“The fire was under control and extinguished quickly with Mesquite and Clark County firefighters working in unison,” Christopher said. “I also wish to thank Thomas El Rico Jackson and crew (No.) 124 from the Nevada Department of Transportation for their assistance on this incident. A true team effort.”

Too bad they could not move it to Bundy’s place and solve two problems at one time.
So…….Mr Bundy is using his 1st Amendment right to speak out against what he considers as wrong doing on the part of some government entities. He has that right. We all do.
You are also using your right to speak an opinion based on the knowledge and understanding that you have acquired by whatever means you have available.
Should we come by and burn your house down too for speaking out ?? Maybe help unthaw that attitude of yours Mr Freeze ?
Fair play I guess.
Um, using his right to speak, and just being a dead beat rancher are two different things. Pay your dues.
Ranchers where once the backbone of this country, I don’t know any that are dead beat . But I know a lot of lawyers that are.
I admire anybody that has the courage to fight what he thinks is right.
