Special ‘Brian Scott’ blood drive, American Red Cross

ST. GEORGE – On Saturday, the American Red Cross will hold a special blood drive in honor of the Hurricane High Tigers “Mr. Everything,” Brian Scott. The blood drive will be held at the Hurricane LDS Stake Center located at 677 South 700 West, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Scott was a member of the first Hurricane High School football team to win a state title since 1948 and was named MVP for the 3A classification in Utah. He also had an undefeated wrestling season which resulted in his third straight state championship. He received a football scholarship to Southern Utah University and was planning to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Uruguay.

But, Scott was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia, a cancer of the blood that starts in the bone marrow. In October 2012, he began treatment for his cancer with chemotherapy. His treatment and his disease create the need for numerous blood transfusions.

“Brian’s family wanted to hold a blood drive in his honor to show their appreciation for the blood donors who have provided the blood products he has needed,” Scott Brown, donor recruitment representative for the American Red Cross in St. George, said. “None of the blood donated at this drive will actually go to Brian but it will be used to replace blood supplies used,” Brown said.

I just donated blood in St, George at the Dixie Direct Blood Drive a few weeks ago…how soon can I donate again? I’d like to donate for this as well, but need to know if enough time has passed.
