UTAH – The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources is offering opportunities for anglers to weigh in – and cash in – on their love for fishing.
Fish for Millions
Fishing enthusiasts can add extra excitement to their next outing by registering for the Cabela’s Fish for Millions contest.
The contest began Saturday in 22 states, including Utah. Participants have until July 7 to catch a tagged fish. Any tagged fish caught is eligible for a prize, which range from a Cabela’s gift card and products to a cash prize worth up to $2 million.
Participants must create a free account on the contest website in order to enter, view eligible fishing waters and contest rules and download the Cabela’s Mobile App, which doubles the grand prize.
“Cabela’s is proud to once again partner with each participating state to offer this year’s Fish for Millions competition,” said Matthew Kettler, Cabela’s senior retail marketing manager. “We hope the contest encourages anglers – novices and experts alike – to invite their family and friends (to go) fishing.”
DWR Fishing Open Houses
Throughout May, the Utah DWR will offer Fishing Open Houses, where fishing enthusiasts can learn more about Utah waters and share ideas with the biologists who manage them. Three meetings will be held in Southern Utah; among the discussion topics include management plans for the Boulder Mountains, Fish Lake and Redmond Reservoir.
- May 16 – Salina @ Salina Firehouse, 80 North 100 East, 6 to 8 p.m.
- May 22 – Loa @ Wayne County Courthouse, 18 South Main Street, 6 to 8 p.m.
- May 30 – Cedar City @ Utah DWR office, 1470 North Airport Road, 6 to 8 p.m.
Additional meetings in southeastern, northern and central Utah will be also be held; a full schedule can be found here.
These events help DWR biologists better understand the wants and needs of anglers in Utah, to the benefit of both parties.
“The DWR has many talented fisheries biologists, but they need your help to better understand the social aspect of regulatory decisions that are made,” said Drew Cushing, Utah DWR warm water sport fisheries coordinator. “After all, these fishing waters are your fishing waters. Our role is to manage them for you.”
