Mohave County Sheriff cracks down on speeding drivers; intensified patrol in Dolan Springs area

MOHAVE COUNTY, Ariz. – The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office has planned a special traffic enforcement detail from Thursday through Feb. 14 for Pierce Ferry Road and Diamond Bar Road, in the Dolan Springs area.

These two roads, which lead to the Grand Canyon West and Skywalk area, will likely see a large influx of commercial traffic over the next week.

“We expect an increase in the number of motor coaches, mini-buses and passenger vans operated by tour agencies from Arizona, Nevada and California,” said Sgt. Don Bischoff, MCSO detail supervisor.

The intensified enforcement effort will target all moving violations, but specifically speeding drivers. In 2010, the MCSO investigated two fatal crashes, which left four dead and eight seriously injured, involving tourists and tour operators in the targeted area. Over the past three years, more than 100 traffic accidents were investigated in the area, with over 30 percent resulting in serious injury or death.

Officers from the MCSO, Arizona Department of Public Safety and Hualapai Tribal Police Department will work together to check drivers and passenger-carrying vehicles, Mohave County Sheriff Tom Sheahan said.

“During this special detail, officers will intensify enforcement of posted speed limits in the Dolan Springs area,” Bischoff said. “We’ll stop and ticket anyone caught speeding, especially on Pierce Ferry Road and Diamond Bar Road, where most of our speed-related crashed occur.”
